Employers can claim tax credits when hiring ex-offenders, recipients of food stamps, SSI, and long-term family assistance, vocational rehabilitation referrals, and veterans under the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

Employers with businesses in the Enterprise Zone in Oakland can use 50% of the new employees first year's wages as a California tax credit, with additional tax credits for the first five years of employment.
